Commonwealth
has planned for heritage tourism in several regions of British Columbia.
The Heritage Tourism Study of Vancouver Island, prepared for the Provincial
Heritage Conservation Branch, provided an in-depth contextual history
of the region, identified themes for interpretation, compiled a computer-based
inventory of tourism-related heritage resources, and proposed strategies
and opportunities for tourism development. A series of public open houses
were held throughout Vancouver Island to gain community input into tourism
and conservation strategies. The project coincided with a parallel study
on non-heritage tourism opportunities in this economic development region.

The
firm prepared a similar heritage tourism study of the Kootenay region,

and took part in tourism studies of the Thompson-Okanagan and Lower Mainland
regions. Commonwealth participated in the Coastal Tourism Resource Inventory,
a pilot project involving sophisticated GIS mapping
