Saint
George's Church, known as the 'Round Church', was begun in 1800. The National
Historic Site is a Georgian church whose unique circular design is associated
with Prince Edward, Duke of Kent. Since its construction, various additions
and alterations have enhanced the building.

The
church suffered a major fire in 1994, which seriously damaged the building
fabric. Subsequent analysis revealed that the church could be rebuilt,
and a cost-sharing program was established with Parks Canada to fund the
restoration.

Commonwealth
is the conservation consultant for the restoration of Saint George's Church.
The firm's work includes assessment of fire-damaged materials, participation
in overall design,

responsibility
for conservation design, and landscape design. We prepared the Conservation
Report, which described the conservation approach and was instrumental
in securing a
$1 million contribution from the Department of Canadian Heritage. Work
was done with Fowler Bauld & Mitchell Ltd., the project architects.
