Focusing on the Presqu'ile Lighthouse and a stone lightkeeper's cottage (which has been restored as part of the complex), the 3,000 SF centre will help visitors explore the links between the evolving maritime transportation system on Lake Ontario and the natural setting of Presqu'ile Bay and Peninsula. The interpretive intent is to reveal an intriguing cultural heritage, full of mystery and adventure.
Commonwealth has provided consulting services throughout the development of this project. Tasks have included a cultural resource study to establish the primary themes and sub-themes, the development of an interpretation storyline, exhibit design, restoration planning for the lightkeeper's cottage, a landscape plan, and complete architectural services including design and supervision. The facility opened in 1997.
